Banner evaluation

For this project i had to make a web banner advertising an art college course.

My final banner design uses screen shots of classic video games scrolling from left to right which then leads to a button which links to the college website. Here are some screens from production.

These are the screens from old video games halfway in motion.
Here is the "click here button" appearing on screen.
This is from the beginning of the animation.

I am very pleased with the final outcome. i am mostly impressed by how the images move across the screen displaying old games which help show the course. i am also impressed about how the programming allows you to click anywhere on the banner at anytime will link to the website.

If i were to this again i would add a few more images and i would like to add a bit more interactivity such as the ability to scroll through the images manually instead of them being on a fixed path.

Overall i am very pleased with the result.

interactive flash

Crash test dumbass
This Flash vector animation is about making a crash test dummy crash into a variety of dangerous and funny objects. You can choose from three camera angles that focus where he starts from and where he crashes. It’s also possible to choose between approximately nine different obstacles to crash into. The animation has a lot of sound effects, these are fitting, and include explosions, smashing effects and some speech, as well as a choice of music.  I found it to be very humorous and quirky, the sound effects do their job very well and the multiple camera angles add a bit more incentive to watch the crashes again. The voice acting is quite funny, but does get annoying and tiresome.

The chips monsters
This is another vectorised Flash dress-up game based on Mr Potato Head, which is meant to be a bit silly, but the sound effects are extremely annoying; the bagpipes nearly gave me a headache. The style is quite dull, and it appears that the animator couldn’t be bothered to make it look nice. It’s amusing for five minutes, but quickly becomes boring due to the lack of items to place on the potato’s head.

Infinite Oz
This animation is a promotion for a television program, called Tin Man. It’s a Flash site and the main feature is an infinite tunnel where you fly back and forth through paintings as it shows scenes from the series. It gives you a slider so you can go either forwards or backwards, and because it’s a Flash site it gives you other options, such as turning the sound on or off, and has buttons to click that link to other pages. I thought it was very creative and artistic. It’s made me want to watch the program to see what it’s about – it’s succeeded in what it was intended to do. This is a very good example of the  use of vector graphics in a website, as it runs very smoothly and quickly without becoming pixilated or distorted.

Web banners

For this task i have to make a web banner advertising the art college.

For my first banner i started with some text asking "want to learn how to program games?", which then was followed by screen shots of classic video games such Metroid, Mario, Outrun and Sonic. the images scrolled from right to left with it ending with button which links to the college home page. I am very pleased with banner because of the scrolling images of old games and how it links to the website, clicking anywhere on the banner at anytime directs to the website.

My second banner has focused on the graphic design/digital graphic side of the course by advertising the software and programs that we use while also telling them how to use them for artistic value and commercial use as well. For this banner i used flash for the coding and animation and i used google to look for the logos of Photoshop, illustrator and flash. overall i am pleased with the outcome of this banner but if i were to do it again i would include an image of the college for the background.

Web banner demo

In flash we had to make an animated banner, first i had to draw a guide line using the pen tool, next i used the shape tool to draw a circle which i then converted it into a movie clip. then i had to code it to link to a theoretical.website.

This is a banner for discounts for restaurants, i like this banner because of how simple it is and of the choice of colour. the black helps to draw your eye to the picture of the food which makes it easy notice.

This a banner for a website called MarijuanaVaporiser.com. i don't like this one mainly because of the purple background, the yellow "BUZZ" and the black and yellow lettering. personally i think that the colours clash which makes it ugly.

Here is a banner for a sports gear website. this another good banner, the reason for this is because of the short animation of a boxer, it is nothing obnoxious so it doesn't become annoying. i also like the cool background colours which blend in nicely.

This an advert for a self-defence website, personally i think this ad is a bit over dramatic and sinister. even though something like this would work it just seems like too many scare tactics.

Finally, this an ad for bathroom surfaces and sinks. I personally dislike this one because of the way its layed out and the sky background which makes it look tacky. also the way the products are displayed makes this ad look strange.
